In Canada, there are currently more than a million people living as cancer survivors. With further advances in prevention, screening and treatment, this number is expected to increase in the future (Canadian Cancer Statistics, 2008). The Canadian health-care system will see a higher number of people living with survivorship issues and it is therefore critical to understand the unique needs of this growing population.

In the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer’s first mandate, The Cancer Journey Action Group found that a key priority was to develop new approaches to cancer survivorship. A number of national workshops and meetings were held and the findings led to the creation of several projects that make up our current focus on survivorship care. The following are descriptions of these projects.
