Overview of the New CAP Cancer Protocols with the Primary Checklist Authors
In July of 2009, the Canadian Association of Pathologists (CAP-ACP) endorsed the College of American Pathologists (CAP) cancer protocols as the pan-Canadian content standard for cancer pathology reporting. These protocols aid the pathologist in the effective reporting of diagnostic and prognostic findings, which are critical to patient care and the collection of collaborative stage data.
Recognizing the critical role that surgical pathology reporting plays in the collection of collaborative stage data, the new CAP checklists have been updated to align with the 7th edition of TNM and Collaborative Stage version 2. In order to help support adoption of the new protocols, the Partnership, in collaboration with the CAP-ACP, worked with the senior authors of the cancer protocols to provide an overview of changes to the new CAP checklists.
