Across Canada a great deal of work is being done to learn more about cancer.
Cancer research involves universities, cancer agencies, hospitals, research institutes and public health units all over the country.
Studies are aimed at answering key questions such as how is cancer caused? How can it be prevented? Are there better ways to diagnose and treat cancer? Studies are looking at how the whole health system can be sure that the needs of patients and their families are supported throughout the experience of cancer.
Thanks to research over the past several decades, the number of new cases for some cancers has decreased and survival rates for others have dramatically improved.
The Canadian Partnership Against Cancer recognizes the excellent research that is currently being carried out, and is building on this by leading the development of a research strategy with its partners from across the country. The goal of this work is to bring the research funding community closer together to support research that will make a greater difference to Canadians in the future.
