The System Performance Initiative at the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer
The process of systematically measuring and reporting on cancer control and healthcare delivery is a key component of understanding and improving the cancer control system. The objective of the System Performance Initiative at the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer is to facilitate the exchange of information through reporting on cancer control indicators in Canada across provincial jurisdictions and throughout the cancer control continuum.
The System Performance Initiative has been a collaborative process. In the first year it was led by a steering committee, including scientists, analysts, cancer policymakers and healthcare practitioners from across the country. In June of 2009 the Partnership held four regional system performance workshops across the country to report on the initial seventeen high-level cancer control indicators. Stakeholders attended from every province, from cancer agencies or their equivalent and from ministries and departments of health.
The System Performance Initiative – A First Year Report presents an overview of the first year of the Initiative and the development of pan-Canadian cancer control indicators. It also highlights notable findings, areas identified as needing further development, and introduces a strategy for moving forward.
