Research impacts every level of Canada’s cancer control system and has led to dramatic improvements in cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. Largely due to research, more than 60 per cent of people diagnosed with cancer today will survive their disease, a 100 per cent increase since the 1960s1.
Research studies or trials are aimed at answering key questions, including, How is cancer caused? How can it be prevented? Are there better ways to diagnose and treat cancer? Researchers are also looking at how the health system can be improved to better support patients and their families throughout the cancer experience.
